Recon overview

The Jeep Recon is a five-seat, all-electric SUV with two motors, standard four-wheel drive and doors, rear quarter windows and rear glass that come off. It makes 670 hp and 620 lb-ft from a 100.5-kWh battery, with an estimated range of up to 222 miles on the Moab trim, the version offered at launch. It suits adventurous buyers who want a Wrangler-style experience in an EV, and who can charge at home or along their routes.

The West take

The Recon is Jeep's first electric trail rig, and Western buyers should treat range as the key question. The Moab trim is rated up to 222 miles, with a 100.5-kWh battery, 670 hp and 620 lb-ft. Ground clearance is 9.1 inches, approach angle 33.8 degrees, and tires are 265/70R18 all-terrain on 18-inch wheels. The rear electronic locking differential and 15:1 final drive support slow-speed climbing. DC fast charging from 5 to 80 percent takes about 28 minutes, while Level 2 takes about 6.8 hours. At $66,995 before destination it suits someone with home charging who explores within a loop, not someone crossing Nevada on back roads. Tow rating is 3,300 pounds, and towing will shrink range further.

Open-air driving in an EV

Doors, rear quarter windows and the swing-gate glass all come off without tools, which Jeep says no other fully electric SUV offers. The Alpine speakers sit under the seats rather than in the doors, so the sound system keeps working when the doors are off.

Dual motors and instant torque

Two 250-kW motors give the Recon 670 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque and a 0-60 mph time as low as 3.6 seconds. The front axle disconnects automatically to save energy, and an electronic locking rear differential helps in tough terrain.

Range and charging

The 100.5-kWh battery gives an estimated 222 miles on Moab. Using a DC fast charger, 5 to 80 percent takes about 28 minutes, and a Level 2 home charger needs roughly 6.8 hours for the same window.

Trail hardware on top of the electrons

The Moab trim has 9.1 inches of ground clearance on 33-inch tires, a 33.8-degree approach angle and a 33.1-degree departure angle. A full-size spare tire rides on the swing gate, and high-strength steel underbody shields protect the battery.

Screens and storage

A 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.5-inch center touchscreen give more than 26 inches of total screen space. A front trunk sized for a carry-on suitcase, a two-tier center console and 65.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seat folded handle the gear.

Recon questions, answered

Can the Jeep Recon handle trails around Moab or Sedona?

On paper, yes for moderate trails. It has 9.1 inches of clearance, a locking rear differential, a Rock drive mode and 33.8-degree approach angle. It also weighs 6,112 pounds, far more than a Wrangler, and remote trails can strain a battery. Carry a plan for recovery and recharging, and stay within the range rating.

Is 222 miles of range enough for a Southern Utah or Nevada road trip?

It works if you plan fast-charging stops carefully. Many Western routes have long gaps between chargers, and heat, climbs and speeds above 70 mph reduce the rated figure. Treat 222 miles as a best case, charge to 80 percent at each stop, and avoid committing to remote dirt routes with no charging fallback.

Is the Jeep Recon fully electric?

Yes. The Recon is a fully electric SUV with no gas engine and no plug-in hybrid version. It uses a 100.5-kWh battery and two electric motors that together make 670 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque.

How far can the 2026 Jeep Recon go on a charge?

Jeep estimates up to 222 miles on the Moab trim, the version offered at launch. Real-world range will vary with speed, terrain, temperature and tire choice.

How much does the 2026 Jeep Recon cost?

Jeep's website lists the Recon Moab from $66,995 before destination in November 2026. At the November 2025 debut Jeep announced a starting price of $65,000 before a $1,995 destination charge, so pricing has moved since launch.

How long does it take to charge a Jeep Recon?

On a DC fast charger, 5 to 80 percent takes about 28 minutes. A 240-volt Level 2 charger needs around 6.8 hours for the same range, and a standard 120-volt outlet takes about 52 hours.

How much can the Jeep Recon tow?

The Recon Moab is rated to tow up to 3,300 pounds. That is enough for small trailers and gear, but less than the Wrangler's top rating of 5,000 pounds.

Does the Jeep Recon have removable doors?

Yes. Jeep designed the Recon so the doors, rear quarter glass and swing-gate glass can come off by hand with no tools, and the speakers are mounted under the seats so audio stays intact.
