The Jeep Gladiator is a four-door midsize pickup that shares its front end, frame concept and removable-top character with the Wrangler, then adds a 5-foot bed. For 2027 it comes with one engine, a 285-hp 3.6-liter V6 paired to an eight-speed automatic, and a trim ladder that runs from the new Sport S to the desert-focused Mojave and the Rubicon. It fits buyers who want a truck that can tow and haul during the week and go properly off-road on the weekend.
The West take
The Gladiator suits Westerners who want a Wrangler's trail ability and a bed for dirt bikes, firewood and camping gear. Mojave is the desert-focused trim, starting at $56,200 before destination, with the 4.10 axle standard and a 6,000-pound tow rating. The Rubicon starts at $55,700 and is rated for 7,000 pounds. Sport S has the highest tow and payload figures: 7,700 and 1,720 pounds with the 4.10 axle. The 22-gallon tank and 17/22 mpg rating give a rough highway range near 480 miles, an estimate worked out from those numbers. Jeep lists up to 12.9 inches of clearance with the 35-inch tire package, useful for washboard, sand and Idaho backcountry roads. Wind and altitude hit a tall truck, so budget for fuel.
01
Towing that outclasses most midsize trucks
With the Max Tow setup on a Sport S, including the 4.10 axle ratio, the Gladiator is rated to pull 7,700 pounds. That figure comes from a single gas V6, so there is no diesel or hybrid to choose between. Rubicon models are rated at 7,000 pounds, Willys, Mojave and Rewind at 6,000, and Sahara at 4,500.
02
Off-road hardware borrowed from the Wrangler
Four 4x4 systems are on the menu, from the part-time Command-Trac to Rock-Trac with 4.0:1 low range on Rubicon, which also adds locking front and rear differentials and a sway-bar disconnect. Rubicon's crawl ratio is up to 77:1, and with the 35-inch tire package ground clearance climbs to 12.9 inches with a 46.7-degree approach angle.
03
A cargo bed that fits the lifestyle
The bed holds 35.5 cubic feet and measures just over five feet with the tailgate closed. Rubicon X and Mojave X trims add a 115V outlet, a roll-up tonneau cover and a bed-mounted Trail Rail System, which makes camping and overlanding setups easier.
04
Open-air options, same as the Wrangler
Jeep sells the Gladiator as the only pickup in its class with a removable roof, removable doors and a fold-down windshield. A black hardtop is now standard on Willys and Rubicon, and a body-color hardtop comes on Mojave.
05
Desert-focused Mojave
Mojave is tuned for fast running on loose terrain rather than slow rock crawling. It uses Desert Rated hardware, FOX bypass shocks, 11.6 inches of ground clearance and a 4.10 axle, and for 2027 it gains heated seats and embedded navigation as standard.

Gladiator questions, answered
Is the Gladiator Mojave or Rubicon better for desert and dune running?
Mojave is tuned for fast, open ground like Mojave Desert roads and dry washes, while the Rubicon is built for slow rock crawling with a 4.0:1 Rock-Trac transfer case. Both come with the 4.10 axle. Mojave starts at $56,200 and Rubicon at $55,700, before destination. Pick by the terrain you actually drive, not the badge.
Can a Gladiator pull a boat to Lake Powell or Lake Havasu?
Usually, with the right trim. Tow ratings vary: 7,700 pounds on the Sport S with the 4.10 axle, 7,000 on Rubicon, 6,000 on Mojave and Willys, and just 4,500 on Sahara. Most trailered ski boats and pontoons fall inside those numbers, but add up the trailer, fuel, gear and passengers, and check payload on the door sticker.
How much can the 2027 Jeep Gladiator tow?
A Gladiator Sport S equipped with the 4.10 axle ratio is rated to tow up to 7,700 pounds. Rubicon models are rated at 7,000 pounds, Willys, Mojave and Rewind at 6,000, and Sahara at 4,500, and the 35-inch tire package lowers the rating to 5,000.
What engine does the 2027 Jeep Gladiator have?
Only one: the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which makes 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque and works with an eight-speed automatic. The diesel and manual transmission that were offered in earlier years are not listed for 2027.
How much does the 2027 Jeep Gladiator cost?
The new Sport S is the entry trim, priced from $43,895 before destination in November 2026. Sahara starts at $48,400 and Rubicon at $55,700, while Mojave X and Rubicon X cost the most, from $63,295 and $64,180.
What is the difference between Gladiator Mojave and Rubicon?
Mojave is built for high-speed desert driving, with a body-color hardtop and a 4.10 axle. Rubicon is built for slow rock crawling, with Rock-Trac low range, locking differentials, and a sway-bar disconnect. Both get heated seats and navigation as standard for 2027.
How big is the Jeep Gladiator bed?
The bed is 60.3 inches long with the tailgate closed and 81.3 inches with it open, and it holds 35.5 cubic feet. The space between the wheelhouses is 44.8 inches.
Does the Jeep Gladiator have removable doors and a removable roof?
Yes. Like the Wrangler, the Gladiator has a removable roof and doors and a windshield that folds down. A black hardtop is standard on Willys and Rubicon, and a body-color hardtop comes on the Mojave.
